In this case, gnome-scan is requesting the value of option 10 but passing a NULL pointer as the destination for this value. I can't think of a case for which val=NULL would be valid on a GET_VALUE call, of the top of my head. A backtrace with hpaio debug symbols (if available?) would be nice.
