My system has /boot as seperate partition with boot images in /boot/<image> and
grub in /boot/grub.

This was working normally until a recent update where the function
make_system_path_relative_to_its_root in /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib turns
/boot to / resulting in a boot image path like: linux //vmlinux-previous
root=/dev/md2 ro video=vesafb:mtrr:3,ywrap,1280x1024...@60 vga=0x318. (Note the
//).

To ensure my system boot correctly I have to manually update the
/boot/grub/grug.cfg file to have paths like linux /boot/vmlinux-previous
root=/dev/md2 ro video=vesafb:mtrr:3,ywrap,1280x1024...@60 vga=0x318

Thanks

I agree with Anthony DeRobertis that there should be no need to prefix
/boot; it seems that the double slash may have been the problem here.
This should have been fixed upstream a while back:

2010-01-20  Robert Millan  <rmh.g...@aybabtu.com>

        * util/misc.c (make_system_path_relative_to_its_root): Work around
        special-casing of "/", as previous incarnation of this routine did.

(and some subsequent changes on top of that)

Could you please try the current version in testing, namely version
1.98-1? I believe it should fix your problem. If not, please reopen
this bug and attach your /boot/grub/grub.cfg for investigation.

Thanks,
