I think that you have broken your own system.  The python2.3 (= 2.3.5-3)
package is available in stable, which is the same suite in which
python2.3-gdbm 2.3.5-3 is present.  The dependencies are satisfiable within
each suite; it's not a grave bug in the package just because you've allowed
your system to get into an inconsistent state.

Relaxing the dependency may or may not be appropriate -- that's for the
maintainer to decide -- but it's not a grave bug if he doesn't.
