I had a problem like this, and solved it by purging (not just removing) every package called openoffice.org*, and also ure, unoconv, and packages which depended on these. After reinstallation, everything worked just fine. It is possible that it is due to corruption of some database caused by a faulty package (ure?) at some point. Please could you try purging and reinstalling all of your openoffice-related packages and letting us know if the problem persists?
