I'm not using MAKEFLAGS, but DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=parallel=8. If your
debian/rules handles that, then it means that it should be supported,
and that your package should build correctly.

So it would probably be better (and a proper fix) to just disable
the support for building using several jobs.
