Yes, this still appears to occur with the same symptoms after installing kvm 88+dfsg-2. (I assume that is what you meant.) I do notice now that apparently the resolution the guest OS wants is larger than any of my host X resolutions, which would explain the failure to go fullscreen. The behavior of exiting the emulator rather than simply failing the fullscreen operation remains.
