This can be reproduced in pbuilder using version 1.2-2 from:
https://launchpad.net/debian/+archive/primary/+files/smart_1.2-2.dsc
But not using 1.2-4. I can't find 1.2-3, but from the changelog (and
reading between the lines of bug #529598), that release would have fixed
things. This was caused by a cdbs incompatibility.
