Diminishing the severity then, since the package has always been
available on i386 only.

Still, you should probably fix the architecture of your package
accordingly and/or check whether it is mentioned in the
package-arch-specific list (I haven't checked). This way we will avoid
this (spurious) FTBFS bug reports in the future and that's why I haven't
closed the bug.
