Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 2.22.2.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
On all of my Debian systems (both x86 and x86_64), gnome-settings-daemon has
started to report an error message at login time that says:
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background
settings may not work correctly.
The last error message was:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.
GNOME will stil try to restart the Settings Daemon next time
you log in.
Of course, the message repeats at the next login. I have tried creating
a brand new user and the message occurs for the new user as well.
I have tried running gnome-settings-daemon from the command line:
ste...@roadkill:~$ gnome-settings-daemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:8503): WARNING **: Failed to acquire
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon
** (gnome-settings-daemon:8503): WARNING **: Could not acquire name
Please let me know how I can help debug further.
