Since it was running it appears to have kept an open handle on one of my compact flash cards when it was attached to the system and thus it was inadvertantly removed without completely unmounting. The unmount command was issued via right-click on the gnome desktop media icon and appeared to have complete successfully (icon no longer on the desktop). However, the media is now completely and utterly unusable in any system as all report that it does not have a partition table and it is impossible to partition the media (all attempts on both Linux and Mac OS X fail). I've had numerous problems with fam locking removable media incorrectly (as have others judging by the reports). -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (400, 'testing'), (300, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages fam depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-13 GCC support library ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-13 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii portmap 5-9 The RPC portmapper --------------------------------------- Received: (at 316579-close) by bugs.debian.org; 6 Aug 2005 22:11:07 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Aug 06 15:11:07 2005 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from katie by spohr.debian.org with local (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1E1Wk7-0002ou-00; Sat, 06 Aug 2005 15:02:11 -0700 From: Chuan-kai Lin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.56 $ Subject: Bug#316579: fixed in fam 2.7.0-6sarge1 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sat, 06 Aug 2005 15:02:11 -0700 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-CrossAssassin-Score: 3 Source: fam Source-Version: 2.7.0-6sarge1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of fam, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: fam_2.7.0-6sarge1.diff.gz to pool/main/f/fam/fam_2.7.0-6sarge1.diff.gz fam_2.7.0-6sarge1.dsc to pool/main/f/fam/fam_2.7.0-6sarge1.dsc fam_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb to pool/main/f/fam/fam_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb libfam-dev_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb to pool/main/f/fam/libfam-dev_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb libfam0c102_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb to pool/main/f/fam/libfam0c102_2.7.0-6sarge1_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
