The answer to the question is surely yours, as (if I read the changelog
correctly) one of the package maintainer.
As you observe, having documented that in the RC bug log would have
saved some cycles of mine as well as some cycles of others which surely
checked the bug. If you intend to RM kaffe, please do so right ahead to
avoid that in the future.
