You are correct, of course.  I'll add libsasl2-dev to Depends for now,
but I've also been thinking of clearing out the dependency_libs field
as suggested in the recent debian-devel thread.  (I know you know about
the thread, as you've posted to it.)

The reasons I'm not clearing out dependency_libs immediately are explained
n my post at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00813.html,
and Paul's reply at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00854.html,
which indicates that libtool upstream may fix this _properly_ in the
future.  I guess I'll follow up and ask him if they have a timeframe
for what they are talking about.
