And this may be too complex for a short term (lzip won't ship lzdiff
and so on, as they will be replaced by zutils).

The lzma format is obsolete anyway. And the future is zutils.

Solution 3 is OK, IMHO.

BTW, there's a problem with the lzdiff man page at least:
