Package: virtualbox-ose-source
Version: 2.1.4-dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Installing the module package doesn't allow for starting of virtual machines
due to mismatching module and software version.

ii virtualbox-ose 2.1.4-dfsg-1
ii virtualbox-ose-source 2.1.4-dfsg-1

Compiling the driver with m-a results in a package installed that is always
suggested for updates with the repository version (which is not usable)

ii virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.26-2-686 2.1.4-dfsg-1+2.6.26-17

And it is updatable to version 2.6.26+1.6.6-dsfg-6+lenny1

But doing so renders virtual machines unusable (see first comment)

Hi,

virtualbox needs both the virtualbox-ose and the virtualbox-ose-modules
to be at the same version, otherwise it doesn't work.

that the prebuild modules in the current testing distribution are
outdated, is know temporary problem until new kernels migrate from untable.

that m-a produces wrong versioning scheme is also known, see bugreports
against m-a. however, apparently, their maintainers do not care :/

workaround: either put the one you hand build with m-a on hold, or
upgrade to unstable. the first might be less disruptive.

however, as it doesn't affect unstable, i'm closing the bug.

Regards,
Daniel
