avifile contains an embedded copy of LAME under the directory avifile-0.7.47.20070718/plugins/libmp3lame_audioenc/lame3.70. According to archived discussions at [1], LAME cannot be distributed, even in non-free. This shouldn't have much impact on the functionality of avifile as avifile also supports dlopening the LAME library.
