Applying the patch from upstream r7968 (http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2008-September/msg03041.html) allows the package to build successfully (at least on amd64). The resulting package installed without any problems and I was able to send and receive a couple of test e-mails. Upgrading the package to a new upstream version would probably be a better solution, but this should at least fix the FTBFS.
