Wondering if you could give me a few tips on how you downgraded these two
packages? Would really appreciate it.

I have not any link to give you, sorry if something might be imprecise (sending to the bug ticket as well):

The quicker way ("aptitude downgrade" didn't work):
take the versions you need checking in /var/cache/apt/archives if you still have it, or downloading them at http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/cyrus-sasl2/ (better if you use your preferred mirror) then as root:

# dpkg -i <your .deb files to downgrade>

Put your downgraded packages on hold to avoid involuntary re-upgrades.
Check constantly in unstable if it appears the fixed version to be able to reupgrade them all.

probably you'll need to downgrade other packages in order for your system to work again, if the downgraded versions needed a different set of deps you do not have anymore.

In my case only sas2-bin and libsasl2-2 was enough, cyrus worked fine. I'm just waiting for the official fix. Hope it will reach us soon.

Usually, in easy circumstances if something breaks during the downgrade, you can use aptitude to re-upgrade it all. Do not downgrade important or complex pacakges unless you know what you're doing.

hope it helped,
C.
