Dear FTP team,
I'm hereby requesting intervention to solve the longstanding problem of the
linux-2.6 package containing DFSG violations in a number of places.
As you know, the nature of the violations is the inclussion of firmware
binary blobs without corresponding source code.
I have recently approached the linux-2.6 maintainer team. On one hand, I
inspected part of the code and found a number of such violations [1]. On
the other, I contacted them to discuss the situation [2]. The general
response was of passive attitude in both cases, but this is not what
motivates my request.
Today, I received a reply on #493925. The content is a bit vague, but it
sets the severity of that bug to 'wishlist', clearly indicating their
unwillingness to solve the problem. The emails that follow state their
intent further in this direction.
Since I have lost all hope that friendly discussion with the Linux team can
resolve this problem, I'm bringing this matter to your attention.
Please note, that in case technical work is required in pruning the package,
I'm willing to collaborate upon your request (as I have offered the Linux
maintainers as well).

this is better solved together with upstream,
instead of making so much tiresome noise.
as the reporter was already told
it is better to file individual bug reports on concrete issues,
we are taking care of those.
considerable good effort was already done for Lenny and afterwards
we continue to progress in the hope that no new gr will emerge.
