Presumably, this means that packages that ucf depends on might not have been configured either. > Version: 3.0016 > Config-Version: 2.0020 > Depends: debconf (>= 1.5.19), coreutils (>= 5.91) Note: ucf says explicitly that it needs debconf (>= 1.5.19) for it to work. > Error message: > Preconfiguring packages ... > supported_versions: WARNING: Unknown Debian release: 5.0 > (Reading database ... 302313 files and directories currently installed.) > Removing libapache-mod-perl ... Hmm. Nothing has been installed yet -- so the new version of ucf is already on the system. I wish we had logs from the initial install where the problems first appeared. > /usr/bin/ucf: line 622: db_x_loadtemplatefile: command not found > dpkg: error processing libapache-mod-perl (--remove): > subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 127 > /usr/bin/ucf: line 622: db_x_loadtemplatefile: command not found This function has been provided in debconf (>= 1.5.19), but not, apparently, in the denconf version you have. > Circumstances: Initially I tried to use aptitude to install a new > package which appears to have triggered an upgrade from etch to lenny. > Aptitude repeatedly ended in an error condition. You have the Etch version of debconf, but the Lenny version of ucf, and this version of debconf _will_ cause ucf to crash. So, this is not ucf's fault, it did say it needed a newer debconf. The issue is, what were you doing that, as you put it, caused an upgrade from etch to lenny? Depending on those circumstances, we might discover if there is something we can pin the blame on. manoj -- The sooner all the animals are extinct, the sooner we'll find their money.
