Assuming you had libgsasl7-dev 0.2.26-2 (version from lenny) installed, I could reproduce the bug here and fixed it with a versioned Build-Depends. It is in our git repository, git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xmpp/jabberd2.git/. Jorge, could you, please, check and upload? I think it is OK that anyone should feel comfortable enough to sponsor.
