Could you do a debug run to get some additional output? The problem probably is in input_layer.c (which only exists after appyling the patches). There please look into function open_input() where acpid tries to open all /dev/input/event* files and checks whether they carry the needed events. Somehow this fails. By debugging this funtion we should be able to find out why it fails.
