Hello, I am the author of Diakonos. The Debian package maintainer is
Ralph Amissah -- I myself did not make the Debian package, and don't
know what went into it. Let's hope Ralph chimes in on this discussion
soon.

I took specific steps in this recent release to ensure that Diakonos
could be packaged nicely for Debian (and Ubuntu). Towards that end, I
crafted the installer to be very flexible, allowing placement of the
packaged files basically anywhere in the filesystem -- this would
empower package maintainers to tailor the Diakonos package for their
particular distros. This flexibility extends to the configuration and
help files.

The installation.rb file is dynamically generated upon installation,
based on the --parameters passed to the installer. If the conf file
is in /etc/diakonos.conf, I'm a little bewildered how installation.rb
did not register that fact accurately.

As you eventually ascertained, if no user conf is found, Diakonos
_first_ attempts to copy the systemwide conf file into the user's
configuration dir (~/.diakonos), and only if no conf file can be found
at all on the system will it offer to go out to the repository to
fetch one.

Anyway, if there is anything I can do to help regarding the Diakonos
package, don't hesitate to let me know. If Ralph doesn't respond
within 48 hours, I'll nudge him by e-mail.
