There can be real data loss when you changed the content of dir2 before calling UNDO, maybe as a misstake - like it happend to me.

I did not yet note that d3lphin has been removed from lenny. That means, I should wait for KDE4 ... Or I should not use the UNDO function ;)

But you still have dir2? That wouldn't be a real data loss.
