I think both points are valid, and it'd be convenient to add a NEWS.Debian file so user are warned at install that they should - make a backup of evo stuff (which is easy to do with the adequate plugin) - run evolution --force-shutdown *before* running the upgrade Thanks for reporting, this will be part of the next upload.
