Same here: cannot boot 2.6.28-1.  The 2.6.28 kernel from DebianKernels 
wiki page about one month ago booted fine.

I have PowerBook Pro, ReiserFS, lilo.  In 
/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf I have MODULES=dep, so the image is 
not too large.
