The confusion comes from doing apt-file search statictabs.xml which clearly shows it as being in miro-data and democracy player. It might be that I am just mixing repositories and that is causing the confusion but of so then there must be something in either the dependencies of miro or apt that is broken. Apt should always be pulling the latest version and I am pinned to unstable for the most part. I don't recall installing any other versions of miro so as far as I was away I pulled it from the official Debian pool.
Does the version number of 2.0-1 come up when running miro? Because in my installation it is only showing 2.0. Perhaps some revision changed that? Ahh wait a mo.. just did apt-get install miro and another version , 2.0-1 has been downloaded. Previously it said that there was no newer version. Perhaps it was just bad luck and the package had not got moved up from incoming soon enough? :) All works now. So Thanks for all your help.
