No, I have seen this a very long time ago already and never used
a working iaxcomm. Now I just tried again on a totally different
system and I am wondering how it can't work for me consistently
while being used by other people. So I have filed this bug
report.

I have never used a working iaxcomm though, so there are no
changes here I can blame for this malfunctioning behaviour.

> 2. Did it used to work for you in the past?

No.

> 3. Have you made any changes to your system recently?

Yes, I have done a complete clean reinstallation and
configuration. Still it doesn't work. It's Debian unstable ever
since though. So no change to a completely different system has
taken place besides the many changes in Debian unstable
development over the years.

> 4. Have you been able to reproduce any where else?

Not so far. I have used a lot of sound softare. Among these are
iceweasel, xmms, xmms2d, jack audio system, alsa drivers,
mplayer, gxine, ecasound, sox sound software. These work ok if
not one of these is blocking the sound device of course.

My sound cards are these:

cat /proc/asound/cards

 0 [Sound-onboard ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf9ef0000 irq 20
 1 [Sound-slot ]: ENS1371 - Ensoniq AudioPCI
                      Ensoniq AudioPCI ENS1371 at 0xdc00, irq 17

cat /proc/asound/devices
  0: [ 0] : control
  1: : sequencer
 16: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback
 17: [ 0- 1]: digital audio playback
 24: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture
 25: [ 0- 1]: digital audio capture
 26: [ 0- 2]: digital audio capture
 32: [ 1] : control
 33: : timer
 40: [ 1- 0]: raw midi
 48: [ 1- 0]: digital audio playback
 49: [ 1- 1]: digital audio playback
 56: [ 1- 0]: digital audio capture

cat /proc/asound/modules
 0 snd_hda_intel
 1 snd_ens1371

Access right are definitely granted to the software. No other
audio application is blocking iaxcomm.

I have tried several combinations of the sound devices detected
by iaxcomm. These are:
