True, but who said that this string must be adapted to declare
compatibility? AFAICS it's used just for cosmetics (prints the upstream
version in the logs) so I see no good point in changing that.

And even if it was a subject to change it should become something like
"2.6.23+debian.patch.2.6.27-1".
