Hi,

I've got same situation, same error. And now I doubt it is cryptsetup issue.
Because, when I got this error, I could reboot with previous initrd file
that specified from grub shell. This problem was caused by upgrading linux
 kernel image package.

So, it is the problem caused by the program that initrd creates.
If so, it would be good to reassign to something initrd tools packages.

And in Ubuntu Launchpad, it is tagged as "fixed".
 see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/151532
I don't know it is true or not.
