The export of proc_root was eliminated in the mm-kernel on mar 30 2008,
and probably in the mainline-kernel a little while later. The recommandation is
to replace proc_root with NULL. I don't know about patches, but it should be
trivial to change. Manual change and make, make install worked. Not tested for
functionality as of yet.
