Yup, starting the game with... warsow +seta gl_ext_GLSL 0
...helped. I'm using Intel drivers (chipset: GMA 965).I'm using Lenny packages, I gave libgl1-mesa-dri in experimental a try, warsow did start (with gl_ext_GLSL set to 1) but I experienced much instability with any 3D app and Xorg crashed ;-)
