This is really strange. I built this for the running 2.6.23 kernel and using the make variable, for a 2.6.26 kernel.
The the 2.6.23 had this error. I went to edit the 2.6.26 and found it 100% correct! A look at the sources, an fgrep 96.43 saw all the version string variables correctly defined as 96.43.07 (obviously had I found something wayward there, I would have tried to fix it).
