I managed to get the program to start by adding a "_simtag = None" in
poker2d.py. Unfortunately after that I wasn't able to progress much
further.

For example, selecting "Options -> High quality graphics" produced a
traceback on the console and somehow I generated a number of "ERROR
*CRITICAL*; should not be here" messages on the console (often
accompanied by a "you can't do that at the moment" message on the UI).

It also seemed really determined not to die :-) Quitting the UI left the
console process running and not closing on keyboard interrupts; I had to
kill -9 it to get rid of it.
