at least on my machine meld locks up after drawing the window without
displaying the gui. strace shows that it is waiting for input for some
reason. It waits for a keypress for anything its trying to do (seems
that the message loop locks up unless it's getting keyboard input)
running it as
true | meld
makes it run (feeding it constant input) but is a dirty workaround.
