sugar-emulator (and probably sugar-shell directly as well) segfaults right
after initially typing in a username.
The segfault seems to be in python-cairo 1.4.12 - see bug#472103.
As a workaround, a patched python-cairo is available for i386 and amd64 here:

It is also available for lenny, although sugar have not yet arrived there:

Bug turned out to be in hippo-canvas, and now fixed in Sid.
