For what it's worth, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. I 
just tried with pbuilder in a clean up-to-date sid chroot.
I also checked that it did not make any communication with the outside 
(besides downloading the build-dependencies).

The "ls: ./check_sizeof: No data available"-alike lines in your log look 
very strange to me...

Is there anything special with your build systems, such as a special 
filesystem or a special /bin/sh?
