I can reproduce your problem. It's the change between 0.9.8g-4 and 0.9.8g-5 that causes the problem that we didn't expect to break anything. But rebuilding it against the current version should fix that, and it doesn't for me. So my first guess would be that it's actually a problem in xchat. I'll try and debug this later.
