Note that this would not be a huge problem if lesspipe was something 
optional. But as it is enabled by default in ~/.bashrc on any Debian 
system, this is IMO RC.

For example it means that I now also cannot use less anymore on files with 
a .doc extention unless I have catdoc installed:
$ echo test >test.doc
$ less test.doc
No catdoc available
test.doc (END)

This really is unacceptable IMO.
