Hi,
python-matplotlib needs to be rebuild against the latest python-numpy, because
python-numpy finally switched
to gfortran from g77. Currently, python-matplotlib and python-numpy don't even
install together in sid,
so I think it's a serious bug.
I and Kumar offer fixing it, so I sent the following email to Vittorio two days
ago:
"
Hi Vittorio,
we need to fix matplotlib to work with the new python-numpy. Mostly
Kumar did the hard work of fixing numpy to compile with the new
gfortran based lapack.
It would be nice, if matplotlib would be maintained in the DPMT
http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonModulesTeam
svn repositories, so that we can just fix the package and write you an
email to review our changes and upload. One option is to add
PythonModulesTeam among uploaders. Also - I am not a DD yet, but I am
already a DM. Are you ok with adding the DM-Upload-Allowed field into
the package and me among uploaders? So that we can just ping you, you
will review the changes, say ok, and I can upload myself if you are
busy.
Another option, which imho is even better, is that DPMT will be the
maintainer, and all of us in uploaders. That way, anyone from the DPMT
is free to fix and upload a new revision, without seeking
an approval. This strategy works well with all packages I comaintain
(sympy, scipy, numpy, pyglet, petsc4py, ...).
Let us know which option (if any) you like.
Thanks,
Ondrej
"
With no response so far. So I imported it to DPMT svn anyway, so
that we can fix it soon:
svn://svn.debian.org/svn/python-modules/packages/matplotlib/
I'll try to fix it with Kumar tomorrow. Hopefully the maintainers
of python-matplotlib (CCed) will get back to us soon either approving
our action, or offering a different solution. :)
As I said in the email, if you don't want DPMT take over the package,
no problem. I'll just use the above svn so that we can test this
package easily with Kumar and then send you a patch, so that you
can apply and upload.
Thanks,
Ondrej
