Package: swf-player
Version: 0.3.4-2sarge0.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Hi!
I'm trying to use swf-player as a plugin with Galeon.
Galeon about:plugins page does *not* show libswfdecmozilla.so as an installed
plugin, even though the file lives in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/, besides
the other installed plugins (libnullplugin.so and libmozsvgdec.so, that
are correctly shown as installed and enabled).
So I thought something else was required so that Galeon can see the swf
plugin...
But then I noticed that, when visiting a web page that includes SWF animations
(I tried several ones, one example is http://www.westtoeast.it/), Galeon
spawns some defunct (zombie) processes:
$ ps aux | grep -i defunct
frx 1427 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1428 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1429 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1430 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1431 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1432 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 12:36 0:00
[swfdec-mozilla-] <defunct>
frx 1540 0.0 0.3 1536 468 pts/6 S+ 13:08 0:00 grep -i defunct
But this is the only tangible effect of the swf plugin... :-(
I still see the default-plugin symbol as a placeholder for unplayed SWFs
animations and clicking on the symbols brings on the Default Plugin dialog
that reads:
| This page contains information of a type (application/x-shockwave-flash)
| that can only be viewed with the appropriate Plug-in.
What's wrong?
I thought that I had just installed the appropriate (DFSG-free) plugin...
