Wow... finally found the root of the problem I've been seeing for a few days now.
Print jobs have been silently being queued on my print server, and there's no useful information in cups as to why this is happening. As far as I know, this is the only thing that has changed recently in the cups toolchain, so I can only assume the gs-* -> ghostscript transition is to blame (somehow). With regard to the /usr/bin/gs disappearing, it seems to be due to the fact that /usr/bin/gs used to be an alternative but is no longer one... the alternatives system doesn't seem to reliably be made aware of this change, so when one does "update-alternatives --auto gs", /usr/bin/gs is blown away after the upgrade to the ghostscript package. mike -- Michael R.
