I don't sure, but it sounds like problems with VISUALS with Xorg. I can't test it because is unreproducible for me.
Please, could test this: export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 skippy I mean to define the var XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS before starts skippy. May be is problems with especific video cards. But this variable we can avoid this.
