I built this package on the i386 architecture three days ago, but to be sure I tried again right now, and it builds ok.
The autobuilders do not seem to have any problem either: http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=&pkg=gettext So, it is likely that there is something wrong in your system, or there is something that we are missing. Can you reproduce it on a newly installed unstable system?
