Is there any chance that you can test whether this is also a problem with the 3.0.27a Samba package in unstable? The package can't be installed directly on etch, so it would require a rebuild or a test on a system running unstable (or an unstable chroot). If you're not able to test just say so and I'll find the time to put together a test case here; but if you are able, that would help us track this down more quickly by telling me whether we need to refer this to upstream, or seek out the change from 3.0.27a that was missed in the security release.
