Ugh. I have no idea how this passed my test before, but it couldn't have. Apparently I forgot that the shell (of course) requires a token before the closing paren, so I need to do "$DOXYGEN", not $DOXYGEN. (the condition that has the syntax error will never execute, but that doesn't help if it doesn't parse) Sorry about that.
