FYI: now that I've checked, the official source of GNU Emacs 22.1 seems to contain this bug also, as well as the current Arch and CVS repositories for the relevant Savannah project. I have sent mail to bug-gnu-emacs accordingly, pointing to this bug report and replicating most of its content. Hopefully that'll speed up coordination with upstream.
