again, the point is that broken partial upgrade are not possible anymore
due to the tighter depends[0]; you have to upgrade all ncurses packages
in the same run.

or more informal:

as soon as you get 'new' ncurses package, any other inter-ncurses
depends is on >= 5.6+200701013-1 (or = 5.6+20071013-1 for some of it's
libraries). that means, that all other ncurses package on your system
gets automatically upgraded too, unless you abort the upgrade (!=
partial upgrade, and not supported).

so, an upgrade from etch to lenny (assumed the sid version would have
migrated already) does work seamlessly.

any other problem, especially downgrades, are don't cares. nobody
/wants/ to do that, even if it would be possible (or would have the
required lower bound of the depends declarations). it's not supported
here because it really does not make sense to do it. why do you insist
on that nevertheless?
