Exactly. About 75% of the programs were made to be run from scripts and/or other programs to prepare materials and do a lot of other stuff. You can even define a script as material, which returns values depending on the input... Also you render in a cluster usually, radiance is way to slow to render large images on a single machine as it was not optimized for speed but for correctness (mainly for simulating lightning). As Your package is the older package, and genbox is probably not one of the very often used tools, I'll rename it in Debian. I guess that's ok for you?
