Error was caused by PEBCAK.
Found stale libdspam* files in /usr/local/lib from a previous installation
which were being used by the Debian dspam packaged binary, instead of the
library files in /usr/lib/
Whoops.
All working fine after removal of old stale library files.
Regards.
