Thanks for the tip, I tried 2.6.23-rc3 but it's still the same - with ACPI I get no DVD device detected, without ACPI it works. I'm attaching the output from dmesg and lspci both with and without acpi=off.
I have also tried the kernel options suggested in the dmesg output (acpi_apic_instance=2 and acpi_osi=Linux), first the one then the other then both, but it didn't do any difference. Any tips on where to look for solutions would be very much appreciated!
